June is commemorated as Pride Month globally — a vibrant month of love, diversity, acceptance, and belonging. This month-long celebration recognizes the struggles, accomplishments, and resilience of the LGBTQIA+ community and reaffirms a global commitment to inclusivity, dignity, and equity.
What inspired the inception of Pride Month?
Pride Month is an important time for members and allies of the LGBTQIA+ community. It has been celebrated for over five decades, honoring the 1969 Stonewall Uprising in Manhattan and advancing the fight for civil and human rights for the LGBTQIA+ community. A pivotal moment in American History, the events of Stonewall gave birth to a movement of justice for LGBTQIA+ rights.
It provides an opportunity to celebrate and promote acceptance, equality, and human rights for all individuals, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity.

Pride Trivia💡
Did you know? Harvey Milk's friend and artist Gilbert Baker is the brain behind the LGBTQIA+ flag. He was inspired by a dancing crowd — watching colors blend as he spun around and formed a rainbow — an object historically representing hope. Each color has its meaning, with Red (Life), Orange (Healing), Yellow (Sunlight), Green (Nature), Blue (Harmony), and Violet (Spirit).
For organizations, participating in Pride Month activities and initiatives can demonstrate your commitment to equity and inclusion, foster a sense of community and belonging among employees, and help attract and retain talent from diverse backgrounds.
