The Essence

A global program to engage 5,000+ employees

PayPal celebrated its first Global Impact Day on June 27th, International SMB Day.

At its core, PayPal Impact Day is about connecting with communities, fostering support for small businesses, and collaborating with nonprofits to strengthen the local ecosystem.

It's a day when colleagues across teams and roles overcome geographical boundaries and join hands as a collective force of good.
THE Problem statement
PayPal wanted to make a difference for local nonprofits and support Small and Medium Businesses (SMBs) by hosting a global volunteering event.

How Goodera helped Citrix plan and scale their Month of Service with Virtual Volunteering
THE CHALLENGE

Coordinating with hyperlocal SMBs and nonprofits across 8 countries

On PayPal Impact Day, PayPal employees assembled essential resources to empower students, improve the quality of life for the elderly, and ensure health and wellness. The resources assembled by them included school supplies, eldercare items, hygiene products, pantry items, and other essentials aligned with precise beneficiary needs.

The challenge was to source these items from 80+  hyperlocal SMBs across 8 countries, deliver them to event sites for packaging, and coordinate with over 40 nonprofits to ensure the final resources reached beneficiaries around the globe.

Together, we did that and more!

THE STEPS

Goodera’s activators for PayPal Impact Day

1. Pre-event

  • Procuring and delivering supplies from SMBs

We procured all the resources from hyperlocal SMBs across 8 countries, planning accurate supply volume for each event site.

  • Mapping and training host network

We trained hosts from our 2,000+ network for location-specific tasks. They also checked supply conditions and on-site setups to ensure maximum volunteer impact.

  • Creating marketing collateral

Goodera created marketing collateral like fliers to build awareness around PayPal Impact Day, thus driving maximum employee participation.

The PayPal event was such a tremendous testament to the power of collective action! Every member of the team was dedicated to getting these kits packed and ready to go out. So much love and dedication isn’t something you see every day, and it was incredible to see everyone joining together to support their community!

The PayPal project was a huge success, and the training provided helped greatly. Although there were fewer volunteers than originally expected, the actual packing of the school bags went very quickly and orderly. PayPal is a great partnership to continue!!! They were very appreciative. We must be cautious not to over promise what we are able to do. Fortunately, I arrived the day prior to organize and set up each table with the several boxes of school supplies, which were very heavy and took me 4 hrs. 🙂 There is no way we could have done that the morning of. A project of this structure definitely requires 3-4 people. I absolutely enjoyed this event!!!

Paypal Impact Day or rather days were one of the most impactful events that reached out directly to more than 2,000 individuals and also the SMB's through which more than 20,000 individual items were bought. The event in itself involved speeches from the SMB, exercises to learn the impact in the form of mini games, and packaging of the items (to be donated).
I would reiterate one of the words of a npo, PayPal and Goodera have been like Santa's to the children.
To conclude, I would hope that other organizations would organise such impactful events that target the needs and make this world a better place.

PMy experience working as a Goodera host for PayPal's Days of Impact was challenging and fulfilling. The Goodera operations team assembled an impressive array of talent to execute this event and I couldn't have asked for better Co-hosts! Their energy and professionalism really mitigated the challenges we were facing and was infectious enough to color the moods of PayPal's volunteers, inspiring them to complete an impressive array of hygiene and pantry kits for local NPO. Working hard for a great cause is really what sets Goodera apart!

I, too, felt the impact of PayPal Manila’s volunteerism as a host. Seeing the volunteers smile, dance, sing, and laugh while packing our kits throughout those 3 days made the whole experience a shining example of Filipino volunteerism. It was “bayanihan” in action, a local term that loosely translates to communal spirit and cooperation. I was deeply moved by everyone that came together for this. Not a lot of hosts get to experience something like this. What a privilege to witness and facilitate volunteerism of this scale!

The Paypal project was a rollercoaster ride of emotions as we all sought to hit our target amount of kits, while having fun. It was a team effort! It was so heartwarming to meet the paypal volunteers, and see how each one of them embodied what Paypal was all about.

They were at their A-game, all smiles, hearts of gold. Some of them even volunteered repeatedly.  Some helped carry heavy boxes, some organized the school supplies and beauty supplies while the others assembled. All of these- while Singing along to 90’s songs, and Taylor swift! One by one the kits were assembled, shouts of “We volunteered” were said and you can  see how proud everyone was of the IMPACT they were making.

After all, the kits they assembled— didn't just benefit one person, or one company. Each beneficiary who received a school supply kit will be able to share with their siblings.

1 meal kit can feed a person 6 times, and  1 beauty kit will help someone learn skills to earn money for their family.

Those 3 days were not easy- but they were certainly fulfilling!

Impact Day with PayPal was a phenomenal experience! For 3 days we got to meet so many different people; connect and hear so many different stories about how it impacted their lives!

Doing this 3 day campaign was challenging and rewarding all at the same time! We had people coming up to us at the end telling us how much fun they had and how they wanted to learn more about how to get involved for more volunteering events!

And that’s one thing we strive to do, as hosts here at Goodera, is to help people understand we all have a responsibility to help others in need. And we can find a sense of community and talk, dance, learn and laugh together as we make the world a better place!

That’s why when I host Goodera events I need the volunteers to feel something when they pack the kits, I need them to feel the impact, I need them to feel a sense of belonging, feel the music as it uplifts your spirits to the point where they realise it’s not just about them anymore; it’s about all of us!

My experience as a Goodera host was incredibly fulfilling. Coordinating an event in Guatemala with over 400 participants working to benefit children's education was a significant contribution. The collaboration with PayPal’s internal impact team, local SMB providers, and the Goodera remote team was seamless, demonstrating that uniting for a good cause is the best incentive for effective teamwork. I look forward to my next opportunity to collaborate with Goodera." Leo Rodriguez

The PayPal project was a huge operation that everyone had high intentions for. I'm glad that I was there to oversee this project because of all of the moving parts and the tedious task that needed to be completed. For this type of event to happen again I would advise Brandon ambassadors being able to come in earlier to set up as well as being able to coordinate with the client sooner in addition to shipping trucking and donations. Drop off/pick up. PayPal was a great sport about having extra hands to help out, even with that there was an overwhelming amount of debris/recyclables. Although we had two new team members they were able to really help out with operations. Our four person brand ambassador team could've been increased and or just having extra time set up. With these type of events, it is always important to allocate time afterwards to be able to set up for the next day as well, overall, I feel that the event was a success as well as the client to be able to complete so many kits and such a short amount of time was absolutely amazing the hard work and the efforts of their employees volunteers really stood out.  I could see this type of event happening more often to be able to supply more kits in such a short amount of time. I would just suggest having ambassadors have more time. I think that the PayPal staff really enjoyed this campaign. There was so many that were really dedicated to the cause and wanting to make sure things were completed as well as the overall work of ambassadors to finish a campaign like this was awesome. The energy was continuous all three days, and everyone really enjoyed volunteering and completing such a great task

2. During the event

  • Capturing volunteer attendance

We enabled QR codes to track volunteer attendance, making it easier to measure the event's impact.

  • Improving volunteer efficiency

We circulated printed and electronic instructions to ensure each volunteer was self-reliant. Additionally, the event captains were pre-trained to help out volunteers in their respective groups.

  • Conveying impact

We created information pieces for volunteers to learn about -

  1. People served through the event
  2. NPO partners
  3. Total supplies packed, and more

3. Post-event

  • Managing end-to-end logistics

We took complete ownership over end-to-end logistics, ensuring volunteered supplies reached recipients in perfect condition. While most deliveries were seamless, some recipients were spread across niched geographies.

For example, we delivered the volunteered supplies to 29 hyperlocal destinations within Singapore and 8 others within Dundalk (Ireland).

  • Capturing impact across volunteer sites

We tracked impact metrics like volunteering hours, total supplies packed, the number of people served, etc. to measure the event's success.
