Celebrating Mandela Day with Africa ICT- A Nonprofit Bringing Internet Technology to Ghana

Africa ICT is bringing internet technology to Ghana

Nelson Mandela International Day is a yearly international event celebrated on July 18 in Mandela’s honor. After being officially declared by the UN in November 2009, the day was first observed on July 18, 2010. During this day, individuals are encouraged to volunteer 67 minutes of their time to help others. These 67 minutes are dedicated to Nelson Mandela’s 67 years of struggle for justice, equality, and human rights for everyone.

On Mandela Day, we had a talk with Daniel Kwaku Ganyoame, Executive Director of Africa ICT Right. A nonprofit focused on ICT(Information Communication Technology), Africa ICT Right (AIR), uses ICT tools to address critical national issues like education, gender equality, youth empowerment, and health in Ghana. They do this through integrated development programs that offer technological solutions and support for educational and healthcare facilities, particularly in underdeveloped areas where the digital divide is most pronounced.

Q
Why do you think it is important to celebrate Nelson Mandela International Day?

Daniel Kwaku Ganyoame: Nelson Mandela was a selfless man. We’re talking about a fantastic man and a brave advocate for equality. He spoke of fundamental freedom and was deeply committed to justice and human rights. Therefore, I believe that everyone should celebrate his views on inequality and the dignity of every person. He altered democracy as a concept and provided a fresh viewpoint. In his novel vision of a free society, everyone coexists peacefully and has equal access to opportunities.

Q
What are the various activities that you all do on Mandela Day?

Daniel Kwaku Ganyoame: Unfortunately, we are still recovering from the epidemic this year; therefore, we will be unable to join in or prepare any celebration activities. But in the past, we have taken part in several initiatives, including the Young African Leaders Initiative, which was started by former American President Barack Obama. As a part of that activity, we visited communities, shared Nelson Mandela’s story, organized community clean-up events, painted, and did other things. We have actively contributed to the spread and then this celebration.

Q
What qualities of Mandela do you think people should practice?

Daniel Kwaku Ganyoame: As we all know, he was an exceptional leader. He displayed outstanding leadership talents and dedication to world peace. His presence was palpable, and his smile was infectious. He had a remarkable ability for forgiveness. His ability to maintain perspective and focus on goals and missions larger than himself stands out. These are some of his characteristics that I believe everyone should strive to emulate. In order for those around us to have no choice but to share in our dream, we should be able to convey what we are seeing in the big picture effectively.

Q
What will be your message to our readers this Mandela Day?

Daniel Kwaku Ganyoame: Everyone is accountable, and everyone has a part to play. Each of us is distinctive in our way. In order to help others, all you need to do is find a cause that resonates with you and allows you to relate to Mandela. Find local assistance and a neighborhood charity within their neighborhood.

We invite you to celebrate Nelson Mandela International Day by making your neighborhoods better. Everyone has the ability and responsibility to make the world a better place. Everyone should be proactive and promote change on Mandela Day. Gain access to the world of corporate volunteers. Get in touch with our team and share your Impact Story on our platform.
