How companies can lead the fight against the spread of COVID-19

Fight against COVID - 19

With COVID-19 spreading rapidly, governments across the world are coming up with solutions that can help humanity prevail through these testing times. With lockdowns and social distancing in place, the government is playing its role by putting efforts to spread awareness and taking measures to combat COVID-19. It is equally important for organizations to come together to join the fight against this.

CSR to curb the spread of COVID-19

In a recent circular, the Ministry of Corporate Affairs of the Indian Government has clarified that spending of CSR funds for COVID-19 is eligible for being considered a CSR activity. The factors behind this circular include the spread of the COVID-19 in India, its declaration as a pandemic by the World Health Organization and the decision of the Indian government to treat the situation like a notified disaster. Governments across the globe are taking similar measures to involve organizations in this fight.

We would like to encourage companies to think about providing relief and rehabilitation to those affected by COVID-19 with unspent CSR funds. As a nation, we are only as socially responsible as the businesses that build our economy.

If you’ve got any unused CSR funds, now is the best time to utilize them. With CSR budgets getting replenished with the start of the new fiscal year in April, we expect a lot of companies to tackle the disease head-on.

Current best practices in CSR and Employee Giving

In order for organizations to make the most out of your CSR budget in this fight, our Founder and CEO, Abhishek Humbad, will be hosting a webinar on Understanding the best CSR practices and learnings to support COVID-19 relief and rehabilitation. One of the largest and oldest apex business organisation in India ,Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) has joined with us to make it more purposeful and beneficial for all organizations.

In this webinar,  the discussion will be around the best practices and learnings to facilitate COVID-19 relief and rehabilitation under the CSR banner. Projects under 4 themes will be showcased- Medical Aid, Creating Awareness, Helping Health Workers, Supporting Economically marginalized folks.  Some of the projects include providing ventilators to hospitals, enabling testing at scale, providing masks to health care workers, providing basic income to daily wage earners etc. Along with this, we will share insights on virtual volunteering and donation opportunities to enhance employee engagement activities related to COVID-19.

Employee Engagement during Isolation

Employee engagement is more important than ever now, with employees working remotely and not being in the office environment to work together. With social distancing being implemented and practised worldwide, it is difficult to have standard methods of engagement, which is making employee engagement incredibly difficult.

During the webinar, we will also explore the need for virtual volunteering, micro-volunteering as well as online donations, all for helping us win the fight against COVID-19 as well as ensuring a high level of engagement even during tough times when employees may have to work remotely for extended periods of time.

We will get through this phase. Humanity will conquer COVID-19, not the other way around. But we will do so together, individually and collectively, with both measures taken individually and initiatives deployed at scale by organizations.
